Welcome to Sheepcamp Herding. We provide herding lessons for all levels of training from beginner through advanced. We will guide you and your dog through all skill levels needed to trial in AKC, AHBA, ASCA. All training courses are designed both for handlers who compete at trials, or those who simply want to get more out of their own dogs. Training is provided for the handling of sheep, cattle and ducks.
Sheepcamp is open for lessons all year long (trialing season is a bit busy, but we work around it). Lesson frequency is up to you and is flexible. The more frequent the training is, and commitment level on your part, the more advanced you and your dog will become.
Sheepcamp trainers specialize in private lessons for folks with all breeds of herding dogs. They offer in-board training with daily, weekly and monthly rates.
Sheepcamp also coordinates National events; hosts multi venue herding trials – AKC, AHBA, ASCA; conducts training seminars, clinics, many club events and fun days – working regularly with:
Local Herding Clubs:
WASCON (Working Australian Shepherd Club of Nevada)
GSDCR (German Shepherd Dog Club of Reno)
National Club Herding Trials:
ABMC American Belgian Malinois Club
ABTC American Belgian Tervuren Club
ASSA – American Shetland Sheepdog Association
RCA – Rottweiler Club of America
Herding Instinct Testing
We evaluate your dog by starting with a Herding Instinct Test. This will tell us the level of training your dog needs to begin with. We will help you discover your dog's natural herding ability, teach you how to manage this, and how to progress with your training. You will learn how to read your dog’s body language and understand what he is trying to tell you. Don’t forget your dog will also be learning your body language. We show you how to make all training a positive influence on both you and your dog.
Sandy Moore, as an AKC and AHBA trial judge and clinician, has traveled across the U.S. and several countries including England, Australia, Scotland, Wales, and France. She constantly gains experience in many techniques and styles of herding from multiple regions and fellow trainers. When asked what she thinks are the most important aspect of her lifelong career as a dog professional she states, "integrity, long lasting friendships, loving my job and loving those dogs".
Terri Jones is also and AKC and AHBA trial judge and clinician who really enjoys traveling far and wide judging AKC and AHBA events. She has finished many ASCA Working Trial Champions. Her favorite part of herding is introducing new dogs and people to herding, watching the instinct brought out in the dogs, and the pet owners being amazing at what their dog can do.
All lessons are scheduled in advance.
